TOURISM AND RECREATION
Tourism and Recreation course is a kind of interdisciplinary course that gives students wide knowledge in various areas. Students learn, for example, about the history of the architecture and the arts, psychology, tourism geography; explore elements of the economics and management as well as the law, marketing, and PR of tourism sector. Thanks to this, student has the opportunity to start a job in a very wide tourism sector including the hotel industry, gastronomy as well as tourism movements organization, or as a tour guide or tour operator.
Thanks to the rich cooperation with the sectors specialists, WSTiJO students can get to know the practical part of teaching that are workshops related to the hotel and tourism industry management. They will learn about the most popular reservation systems in tourism and they will prepare calculations of tourist events etc.
Then, depending on the specialisation selected, they deepen their knowledge and so become specialists in i.a. the hotel industry, gastronomy, tourism management, international or health tourism to name a few.
Graduate of the course holds operational and managing positons in offices and travel agencies, can also run his/her own business in tourism, hotel industry or gastronomy. Student has the team leadership and creative solving-problems skills.
In WSTiJO we pay much attention to practical language education so that all students studying both full-time and part-time are taught two languages. The first language is English and there is an option of studying it at different levels; and the second language option is: Spanish, Italian, French and Russian. Such a wide range of language choice significantly increases the chance for getting an attractive job after graduation.
THE SCOPE OF CURRICULUM
Students of Bachelor’s degree studying Tourism and Recreation reach wide theoretical and practical knowledge in such areas like:
- tourist business functioning in the light of the legal and administrative regulations of Poland and European Union
- Planning marketing activities in the tourist business, creating the tourism products, improving the sales channels for tourist offers
- negotiation techniques
- Coordinating activities in the hotel and gastronomy businesses
- Knowledge of the social and cultural aspects for increasing tourist needs
It is required to serve three-week professional traineeship. The Higher School provides professional traineeship opportunities for all students i.a. in: travel agencies, hotels, convention centers etc. depending on the specialization selected and student’s expectations. Traineeships take places in tourist institutions in Poland and abroad including: Greece, France, Germany, Italy and the USA. In case of foreign traineeship, student in most of cases receives scholarship for the traineeship that helps him/her cover the costs of living abroad.
Students can serve a part of studies or traineeship in colleges and partner institutions in the European Union countries as part of European-wide Erasmus + programme called “Lifelong Learning”. Traineeships and travels for educational reasons are financed by Erasmus+ programme. The programme encompasses all students both studying full-time and part-time. TOUR OPERATOR AND TOUR GUIDE COURSES
WSTiJO periodically organizes Tour Operator and Warsaw Tour Guide Courses. All students with the passion for tourism can obtain an additional and attractive profession within a few months. Having the course completed and the interior exam passed, student takes the state exam in the Warsaw City Hall before a board specially appointed. Afterwards, such a student is authorised by the state to work as a tour operator or a tour guide.
Tour Operator Course
It is a three-month course during which a student learns about i.a. the tourism law, social psychology and group psychology elements, stress management, administrative backroom of the travel agency and the documentation of tourist group, tour operator guide obligations which involve full realization of tourist event programme, group safety keeping as well as controlling the quality of services and their compliance with orders. The interior exam is one-day trip during which there are verified the student’s practical skills he/she acquired.
Tour guide course
It takes around six months and includes classes on the subjects related to social psychology, tourism law in Poland and the European Union, local history , history of art architecture, tourist geography, methodology and guidance ethics. The constituent of the course are field classes in Warsaw which aim to teach students about the most important cultural and art monuments in the capital city. The culmination point of the course is one-day bus trip that constitutes the test during which there are verified the student’s practical skills he/she acquired.
